This is a message for those people who are getting a bit tired of 'social networking', and let's face it - it can be exhausting. Sitting, glued to your computer or mobile phone tweeting, poking, updating, looking, tagging, joining, following, generally doing everything except being social! Where's the interaction in this?

Are these 346 people really your 'friends'? If anyone really has got that many friends they must spend an absolute fortune on stamps and birthday cards! In my book a friend is somebody who's part of your life, that you enjoy spending time with and is always glad to see you. Not somebody that you never see and don't really know a thing about. Is there a real live person sitting downstairs or at the other end of the settee that you could actually engage in conversation or go out with? Coo, think of the social possibilities!

So if you've finally come to the conclusion that yes, this social networking malarky is a bit of fun but as with most 'moreish' things - everything in moderation. CONGRATULATIONS! You've seen the light, now go and spend some time with your REAL friends and family.

Now don't get me wrong I'm not saying there is a great evil among us and the world should 'log off'. I use these sites myself to keep in touch with my friends (real ones) and for those who are geographically no longer close it's great. These sites are also now probably the best way of keeping up to date with artists and bands that you like, celebs love a twitter!

I'm talking about wasting valuable time looking for the sake of looking. Stop being nosey! Are you really bothered about some boy who you used to have a crush on at school who hasn't really aged that well or that girl who you worked with and never really liked but she asked to be your friend and you didn't like to be rude. Do you really need to know that a friend of a friends hamster has just knocked over a cup of tea with its excercise ball? Or that the friend of a friend had made a cup of tea?

Time is REALLY precious and not worth wasting, get out there and do 'stuff' and live your life so you've got things worth talking about with your friends - face to face!

If you want to share these words of wisdom with others, there are some jolly nice banners for you to put on your websites and blogs.

PEACE OUT x

DO FOLLOW...

the yellow brick road - it seemed to make the scarecrow happy

your instincts - nobody else will

a team - get out there and support your local team

your nose - anatomy dictates this

the bear - for those who remember Hofmeister

instructions - they are generally helpful

suit - when playing cards

DON'T FOLLOW...

your shadow - it's fruitless and frankly quite tiring

in someone else's footsteps - choose your own path

your tail - this is only fun for dogs

the leader - this is only useful for sheep and migrating birds

dress codes - any place with one is probably full of arseholes

through - we all know the hazards of this
